Highlander Movie Remake

Highlander MovieDo you remember Highlander, the 1986 movie directed by Russell Mulcahy and starring Christophe Lambert and Sean Connery? It was about a group of immortals beheading one each other till there's only one. Well, Summit Entertainment is planning a remake of that film.

Scriptwriter Melissa Rosenberg (who worked on the Twilight franchise) has been hired to pen a script of this new Highlander movie. And Summit announced that Director Justin Lin (who directed the Fast and Furious movies) will helm the project and Neal H. Moritz will produce.

Plot:
"In Highlander, after centuries of dueling to survive against others like him, Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish swordsman must confront the last of his kind, a murderously brutal barbarian, who lusts for the fabled Prize."

A few words from Summit Entertainment and Peter Davis, long time producer of Highlander:

"We are privileged to have this amazing opportunity to reinvent one of the great franchises. Neal and Justin have proven more than once that they can deliver an entertaining and exciting blockbuster."
Patrick Wachsberger,
co-chairman of Summit Entertainment

"Justin and Neal are an exciting directing/producing team and I am confident that they will deliver a truly dynamic film while being totally respectful of Highlander's Legend."
Peter Davis,
Davis-Panzer Productions

HIGHLANDER

I was a real fan of the original Highlander movie when it came out. But I watched it again last year, and it didn't age that well: still hooked by the story, but the plot and the way it's filmed kind of feels shallow. So I of agree that a remake would be welcome, just to revamp the whole thing.

But I don't know what to think about Melissa Rosenberg's involvement: are they going to transform Highlander into a syrupy franchise for teens and young adults? Hope not...

Anyway, stay tuned with us for more information about the new Highlander movie!
